- The Holy Spirit Sermon Series (#2 of 4)
- Pastor Alistair
Doug Snook
- Would like to thank all who have prayed for him over the past year regarding his cancer treatment.
- He now has been given an excellent nil report.
- He monitors church attendance & is this church’s historian.
Recap last week:
- The narrow path
- On this path the Spirit is found!
What does the Holy Spirit do?
- Encourager, Counsellor, Teacher, Guidance, Comforter, Trainer, Convictor (Convincer?), God with us, Helper, Answer and Provider
- (Answers from the audience)
- Whatever Jesus did for his disciples, the Holy Spirit wants to do for you.
Let’s be honest:
- When Jesus did strange and unusual things (miracles of healing, but through odd means e.g. spit into mud) we are comfortable with this.
- But if the Holy Spirit does these things today, we are uncomfortable with this.
John 14:26
- “He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
He wants to:
- Show you – bring to mind things that were and could be
- Speak to you – about what you should be doing
- Send you out – to do what you should
Questions to ask yourself
- How teachable are you?
- We all need to be teachable and then the Spirit can use us.
- We often aren’t as teachable as we might think.
- Are there sins that you wish you’d stop doing for the past 10 years?
- This is a reflection of how teachable you are.
- Has your faith grown in the last year, and in what ways?
- What steps have you taken?
- Again, this reflects your teachability.
The Spirit will never disappoint you.
- Jesus never disappointed his disciples.
Isaiah 30:21
- And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, “This is the way, walk ye in it,” when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
