Hippolite Musings

The Good News:

  • Climate-Gate is growing.  The letters proving Climate Scientists have been lying to advance their ideological cause (and not the science) has claimed its first scalp.  Expect many more to surface.
  • Our Prime Minister is still not going to Copenhagen (so far).  This signals the immanent failure of that scare-mongering love-fest for a replacement protocol for Kyoto.
  • A minority of people believe in molecules-to-man-without-God.  That gives us a huge entry point for the Gospel.

What did I do?  What did I say?  Nobody loves me this week.

The ETS Got Passed

The Emissions Trading Scheme was passed into law on Wednesday with the help the Maori Party gave to National.  This is a (deferred) economic disaster.  Hopefully Climate-Gate will change everybody’s minds before the deadlines kick in.  If you don’t know what Climate-Gate is about, check out my post last week.

Iran Will Swap Uranium On Its Own GroundNovember 24, 2009
Iran said Tuesday it was ready to exchange its low-enriched uranium with a higher enriched material, but only on its own soil, to guarantee the West follows through with promises to give the fuel. The Iranian terms mean an effective rejection of a UN-brokered plan designed to delay its ability to build a nuclear weapon. Under the plan, Iran would export its uranium for enrichment in Russia and France where it would be converted into fuel rods, which would be returned to Iran about a year later. The Jerusalem Post

Bibi Wants Help For Gaza Explusion VictimsNovember 24, 2009
Visiting expulsion victims in the Eshkol Region, near the Gaza barrier that separates the families from the destroyed sites of their former homes, Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with regional council leaders and three cabinet ministers. Also present was the new head of the committee that for four years has been sharply criticized for failing to help the expulsion victims rebuild their lives. Arutz Sheva

Gold Hits Record HighNovember 23, 2009
Gold jumped to a record price as the slumping dollar boosted bullion’s appeal as an alternative asset. Silver also gained. Gold futures touched an all-time high of $1,174 an ounce in New York, after the dollar fell as much as 0.9 percent against the euro. Bloomberg

Conscious Man Trapped in ‘Coma’ For 23 YearsNovember 23, 2009
An engineering student thought to be in a coma for 23 years was actually conscious the whole time, it has emerged. Rom Houben was misdiagnosed as being in a vegetative state after a car crash left him totally paralyzed. But, in actuality, he was trapped in his own body the whole time with no way of letting friends and family know he could hear every word they were saying. Sky News

Chinese Intellectuals Drawn To ChristianityNovember 19, 2009
Officially, the Chinese government counts some 10 million Protestants and four million Catholics belonging to registered churches, which proscribe evangelical activity and preach a patriotic dogma. But Chinese and foreign observers alike believe the number of Chinese belonging to underground churches may now exceed 100 million people. That figure has grown rapidly as more and more Chinese, particularly well-educated city dwellers, turn away from Communist Party atheism. The Wall Street Journal

  • 2nd Corinthians 10
  • Take captive every thought or pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God
  • Most fears are unfounded
  • Wise fears: fear of God, fear of Hell
  • Most fears have an entry point like a wounding of the spirit (e.g. sexual assault)

Elijah was afraid

  • of Jezebel
  • wanted to die
  • Until God spoke to him in the cave

How to overcome

  • Fear paralyzes your potential. It’s often after a great victory that we don’t have our guards in place. Jabez in 1st Chronicles had an overcoming spirit. Know that God is always with us. Joshua 1: the key to paralyzing fear is faith. Joshua was told to take the word of God and meditate on it day and night.
  • Fear ruins your relationships. It prevents you from being honest. Learn to be transparent. Have close friends with which you can be honest.
  • Fear robs you of your happiness. Solution: take everything to God.
  • Fear sabotages your success. You need to become a Jehu – a turnaround anointing that changes these things. The power of Jezebel is broken through repentance.

Why I Am A Christian

‘Tis Logical

  1. Intelligence proves design (else scientists wouldn’t be searching the galaxy for signals from space).
  2. DNA is full of design
  3. Hence, DNA was designed
  4. Hence, we came from a greater intelligence

Next week, I’ll summarize how we can discern whether that Greater Intelligence was ET or God.

Why I Am A Creationist

Molecules to Man Evolution makes no sense

  • From Goo to You through the Zoo
  • Billions of years of random processes produces chaos, not order
  • Order requires an intelligent agent acting.

Why I Am A Global Warming Critic

In a Sense, I Do Believe In One Form of Global Warming

That is, when Jesus returns, takes us home (to heaven) and burns this planet.  That’s the only Global Warming I believe in.

Great Scientists Who Believed the Bible

Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778)

Carolus Linnaeus was the father of biological taxonomy. His system of classification is still in use today. One of his main goals in systematizing the varieties of living creatures was an attempt to delineate the original Genesis "kinds." He firmly believed in the Genesis account as literal history.

Dear Colleague,

A full 30% of the states parties to the CEDAW Treaty (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) totally ignore the CEDAW committee by not issuing required reports. This is fantastic news for those who assert, as we do, that the UN human rights treaty monitoring committees, like CEDAW, are useless to dangerous. It shows a remarkable disdain for the radicals who sit on these committees.

We also report on the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, yet another treaty with a crazy committee. This committee has criticized governments because there are too few children in day care and that too many are in Catholic schools! They are all nutty and should be ignored.

Spread the word.

Yours truly,

Austin Ruse

New Report Says UN Women’s Rights Committee Increased Activism but Remain Nations Unimpressed

By Susan Yoshihara Ph.D.

(NEW YORK – C-FAM) The committee responsible for monitoring state compliance with the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) says it increased its activism in the last two years by working more closely with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to develop its agenda, and with select parliamentarians and jurists to enforce it across the globe. On the other hand, according to the report, many nations are simply ignoring the committee and refusing to send in their reports.

On the 20th Anniversary of the Child Rights Convention, US Pressured to Ratify

By Samantha Singson

(NEW YORK – C-FAM) Last week in New York, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) with the release of a special report on the impact of the treaty. While many used the anniversary to celebrate the CRC, some expressed concern about the growing pressure on the United States to ratify the treaty, saying that the treaty’s rights-based emphasis touted by UNICEF is fundamentally flawed. UNICEF’s special edition State of the World’s Children entitled "Celebrating 20 Years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child" highlights developments made in the child rights arena.   Read more

Train a Child

We’ve Just Instituted A New Idea At Home

  • Fiona has scheduled 1/2 hour play dates between each member of the family, once per week.
  • So I get 1/2 an hour with each child, and they get 1/2 an hour with each other too.
  • We’ve noticed some immediate differences:
    • Aimee used to constantly demand our time.  This method is fair and she sticks to it.
    • The kids were constantly niggling at each other.  This method makes them play nice (and negotiate a common game).  It clears the air.
    • Hamish was constantly missing out.  He wasn’t the squeaky wheel.  Now he gets his fair share.  Everybody’s happier.

Why I Am Pro-Israel

Dear Friend of Jerusalem,

Here are the latest headlines from the One Jerusalem Blog:

  • Opposition to Obama and Netanyahu Rising:  Months ago, a poll of the Israeli public concluded that six percent of the Israeli public had a positive opinion of President Obama. Today, its possible that figure would be lower. Israelis are seething over the decision of Israel’s Cabinet…
  • What Did Israel’s Cabinet Meeting Accomplish?:  Following a Cabinet meeting in which Minister Uzi Landau voted against any sort of moratorium on construction in settlements there is some confusion as to what Israel’s security cabinet agreed to do. At a news conference today, Prime Minister Netanyahu…
  • May Their Memory be a Blessing
  • VIDEO :: Israel’s Special Needs Kids:  A few summers ago, One Jerusalem met with the founders of Help Get Well, an Israeli charity that provides help and relief services to Israel’s victims of terror attacks, families living under rocket fire, senior citizens, the infirmed and others. The organization runs food kitchens and sends…

Living Dangerously

The obviously blind man (white cane and all) says to the barkeep “Wanna hear a blond joke?”

The bartender says “Before you start, know that this is a biker’s pub; I’m blond, the bouncer’s blond and the Hell’s Angel sitting next to you is blond. Do you still want to tell that joke?”

The blind man says “Well not if I’m going to have to explain it three times.”

  1. Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything…tutors, mentors, flash cards, special learning centers. In short, everything they could think of to help his math. Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him In the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn\’t even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner. To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference. Finally, little Zachary brought home his report Card.. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, His Mom looked at it and to her great surprise, Little Zachary got an \’A\’ in math. She could no longer hold her curiosity.. She went to his room and said, \’Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?\’ Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, no.. \’Well, then,\’ she replied, Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? WHAT WAS IT?\’ Little Zachary looked at her and said, \’Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren\’t fooling around.\’
