Peter Nunn Message #2

God’s Goal for Israel

  • Continuing the study of the Book of Joshua
  • Bring them out of Egypt and bring them into the land of Canaan

God’s Goal for Us

  • Take us out of the world and transform our lives
  • Romans 8:29,30 – Called, justified, glorified

Was saved

Am Saved

Being Saved

Is being saved sufficient?

  • Many Christians settle for merely saved
  • When they could/should be seeking after God’s best
  • His purpose and plan to use our talents
  • To fulfil His purposes
  • His task will get down, with or without us
  • But then we miss out on the treasure that was destined for us

Romans 7:18-24

  • Struggling with sin
  • Don’t stay there!

Preparation for being a successful leader (book of Joshua)

  1. Faithfulness – Numbers 14:6; Hoshea, son of Nun, (renamed Joshua by Moses) was one of only two spies (out of the original 12) who urged the people to go into the land.
  2. Conviction – a definite call to the Lord’s service.  The right motivation.  He took it very seriously.  We need to too.  “Be strong…” many times said by the Lord to Joshua.  Why?  Perhaps because he didn’t feel very strong.  That’s a good thing.  To feel dependent upon the Lord.  What is the conviction that you are clinging to?  Is it a call of God?  He is calling you to a life of commitment and service.  All other priorities are secondary to this conviction.
  3. “A Man of the Book” – Joshua 1:8.  Theology has its place; but it’s more than that.  Meditate on the Scriptures in order to absorb its meaning, its nuance.  Let it touch our lives.  Let it control our lives.  Obedience to the Word of God.  The devil knows the Word of God, he just doesn’t obey it.  Then you will be prosperous and good success.
