METTLE Weekly Newsletter

Hippolite Musing

I did attend the second “Science and Faith” seminar at Karori Baptist Church on Sunday 27 July 2008.  It was good to have a friend along this time, thanks Eric.  This time, it was the turn of a Christian Evolutionary Biologist to present from his perspective.  Needless to say, I found his choice of self-title somewhat of an oxymoron.  Here is my report of his presentation:!A93B6100E328706D!616.entry

I found it fascinating that (in my estimation) he spent about 75% of his allotted 1 hour justifying a non-literal interpretation of Genesis 1.  Just the remaining 15 minutes was a perfunctory rendering of his reasons for believing in evolution.  All 5 of his reasons I deal with in my report above.

Nobody wanted to challenge/debate me afterwards this time, so I went and picked on the lecturer instead.  I told him “I cannot subscribe to your beliefs, because the conclusions are so abhorrent.”

“Which conclusions are those?” says he.

“Kill the weak,” says I.

“I never said that,” says he.  “What are you talking about?”

“’Survival of the fittest’ is code for ‘kill the weak’” says I.

“No it isn’t,” says he.

“It isn’t, in your interpretation of evolution, because you are informed by your Christian beliefs.  However, that is what pure, atheist evolution is all about,” says I.

“…” says he.

  1. Thank you James for standing uo to these guys and debating against their nonsense.  Scientists need to reconsider all the assumptions they make in their formulae and bring their theory into line with God\’s statements in the Bible.
Psalm 138:2 says that God magnifies His word even above His own name (as given in the KJ translation).  People who read long ages into Genesis are ignoring what it says.
    Many Blessings

  2. Hi James
I have often thought if evolution is true then all of the following should happen:
        1. Hitler and all like him should be made heros – he was applying the pricnciples of natural selection as unnatual selection but at least he was far more in line with evolution than people who care for the sick and needy. Even if his science was misguided at least he should be exhonerated for having the right idea.
        2. All murders should be relased from jail to get on and repoduce, as they most cetainly have the better genes – I mean after all they have the abilty to kill someone so they must be the fittest and their genes should be allowed to prevail.
        3. Any disabled or sick person should  immediatley be removed from society and killed (or at least sterilised if they are still able to work) as they are contributing to the dilution of the human gene pool by being able to breed and pass on thier weak genes. Also they are a drain on resources and also hinder those burdened with their care.
        4. Civilization and modern technology should be banned in it\’s present form – Sparta was probably the closest society to up hold the principles of evolution. Civilization as we have to day is too comfortable. It allows weak people to survive longer than they would in less technological societies and they reproduce and pass on thier bad genes, weakening the human geen pool. All technology should ony be used to progress the human race. Never used to help the weak or sick, or everyday person. It should only be used for those who can improve the human gene pool and get us expanding into the rest of the universe.
        5. All forms of kindness and compassion should be outlawed and anyone caught showing these traits should be arrested and executed. Help and assitance should only be given when it will assist in the survival and the improvement of the human
    6.     Ban doctors for the masses. Medical attention should only be given to those top individials and then only for the greater good of the human race.
I heard one major irony on a crime program. A detective was talking about behavoiur patterns of criminals and saying they were evloutionary traits certain people had gained by natural selection – but he would also persue them to bring them to justice!
    Paul H.
