Panel Discussion

With:
  • Adam Cogan, SSW
  • Nick Randolph, SoftTeq
  • Andrew Tokley, Intergen

Discussion:

  1. "Why," asks Nick, "at a SQL Code Camp, are some many of you developers?  Why aren’t the dedicated DBA’s here?"
    • "In my opinion," says James, "Microsoft DBA’s are smart enough to diversify into Development, whereas Oracle DBA’s are forced to specialise."
  2. DataSets vs Objects.
    • I have no idea what they’re talking about.
  3. "Will SQL survive the next 30 years?" asks Peter Jones, organiser and general stirrer.
    • What will replace it?  I have no idea what they’re talking about.  ORM = Object Relational Mapping.  Some tool doing my job?  Dunno.
  4. Base4 is being pushed by Peter Bamberger.  Peter was voted last night at the Camp Fire Dinner to be "Most likely to Succeed (because he refuses to use this inferior product called Visual Studio 2005).  Ha Ha.
